- Flavor dilution: Specialty flavors lose character in both formats — jalapeño cited in both, garden veggie in both
- Portion perception: Both thinner (Spread) and airier (Whipped) textures make customers feel they’re getting less
- Texture polarization: Some love “smoother/lighter,” others see it as a negative

🎯 Executive Summary
Control vs. Spread-Style vs. Whipped: March–April 2026
1. Neither new format matches Control. Both Spread-Style and Whipped underperform on every metric. The current product remains the clear customer preference.
2. Each format has a different weakness. Spread’s biggest problem is repurchase intent (-13.2 pts) — customers try it and don’t want it again. Whipped’s biggest problem is its high 3-star rate (11.5%) and low 5-star rate (61.5%) — customers find it merely “average.”
3. Einstein Bros. is hit harder by Spread. Einstein’s sentiment drops 4.4 points with Spread while Bruegger’s is essentially flat (-0.4). Whipped is only tested at Bruegger’s, where sentiment drops 2.5 points.
4. Jalapeño suffers the most across both formats. It drops 0.35 in Spread and 0.81 in Whipped. Any formulation change must preserve specialty flavor intensity.
5. Portion perception is universal. Whether “too drippy” (Spread) or “lots of air” (Whipped), both formats make customers feel they’re getting less cream cheese.
6. Whipped has a smaller sample (n=27, Bruegger’s only). Results are directional. Additional data and Einstein testing would strengthen conclusions.
